A major obligation of being a Catholic is to attend Mass every Sunday, so that’s the best place to start. Although you won’t be able to receive Holy Communion at Mass yet, you can join in the worship and start to learn what you are committing yourself to. You can find your local parish here.

Many parishes run Sycamore or Alpha courses, which help building your knowledge of the faith.

Joining the Church

Baptism is the first step in your relationship with God as a Christian. If the candidate comes from a Catholic family, this sacrament is usually received by infants.  However, it is never too late, and you are never too old to begin your journey with God.

You can undertake the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) courses for people who wish to join the Catholic Church. This prepares them to be Baptised (if they haven’t been), Confirmed (by the parish priest, under delegation from the Bishop) and make their First Holy Communion.

All information on dates and processes can be found by contacting your parish. You can find contact details in the Find a Parish page.
