His Excellency, The Most Reverend Stephen Chow Sau-yan, SJ, is Bishop of Hong Kong. He has shared with his priests his pastoral concern for Hong Kong émigrés who have had to leave their homes for new countries in these past couple of years. Fr Gervais Baudry has responded to this concern. Fr Gervais is a priest of the Institute of the Incarnate Word, serving as a Parish Priest in the New Territories, Hong Kong. He recently stopped off in the UK en route to his family in Argentina to celebrate Mass and minister the Sacrament of Reconciliation in the Parishes of St James & St William of York in Reading and St Michael and All Angels in Leigh Park.

Fr Gervais is also visiting parishes in many other parts of the country. Raymond Tam, one of the émigrés who has settled in our Diocese, said after the Mass in Leigh Park: It is our great honour to be part of the diocese and help build the church of God here. Canon Gerard Flynn, Parish Priest in Leigh Park, remarked that it was privilege for St Michael’s to be able to host such a wonderful group of people with such extraordinary experiences and such profound commitment to the faith. Fr Christopher Heaps, in Reading, commented: It is good news arising out of much suffering and change!

When we see how much our brothers and sisters have had to deal with, I hope it inspires us all to embrace the changes we face in the coming strategy for our Diocese.
