The Catholic church of St Matthieu celebrated 150 years of age on Sunday 4th September. The anniversary was marked with a High Mass concelebrated by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Portsmouth, Philip Egan and the Catholic Dean in Jersey, Rev Canon Dominic Golding.
A relic: a wooden crucifix used by the Jersey martyr, Père Matthieu de Gruchy was placed in the chapel, at St Matthieu in a wooden, glass-fronted reliquary. A celebration cake was then shared with the many parishioners who attended the service.
