| The Southampton Catenian Circle has a longstanding affiliation with Southampton University CathSoc students with an annual tradition to hold a fundraising barbecue for the students’ annual pilgrimage. Retired restauranteurs, Daverio and Helen Matteucci, once again kindly hosted the event in their garden. The barbecue skills of Daverio and fellow Catenians, Roger Lillie, Grand National President and Brother Harry Harrison, were certainly put to the test this year, cooking on a very warm summer’s afternoon for over 60 people. The University students contributed with serving and washing up duties. The Students pilgrimages are overseen by the Sisters of Verbum Dei and Southampton University Chaplain, Sr. Emiliana, who was a guest at the event. The occasion was well supported by Catenians from across Hampshire, and the Southampton Circle were delighted to present Southampton CathSoc with a cheque for an amazing £1,017 towards their pilgrimage. The students are shortly heading to Rome where they will assist Italian social workers with projects supporting the city’s homeless and refugees. |
