This World Mission Sunday, Pope Leo XIV is calling on parishes across the Portsmouth Diocese to support Missio, his chosen charity for World Mission.

Missio ignites God’s love by empowering local missionaries to work alongside global communities that are poor or in need – regardless of background or belief.

This year’s focus is on Myanmar, a country facing war, poverty, and injustice. For the past four years, the people of Myanmar have endured devastating violence, leaving many without hope of returning to a ‘normal life’. Villages and churches have been bombed, schools and hospitals destroyed, and countless families forced to flee their homes.

Amid this suffering, Priests and Religious Sisters continue to live alongside displaced families in refugee camps – offering food, medicine, education, and above all, hope.

This World Mission Sunday, and throughout October, Missio invites everyone to give what they can and to pray for missionaries and faith communities around the world. Together, we stand united in faith, prayer, and solidarity with our sisters and brothers in need – striving to make God’s love visible in every corner of the world.
