St Peter’s Church in Winchester warmly invites people of all faiths and none to experience the building transformed into a place of beauty, hope and wonder. Through illuminations, live music, quiet reflection and community hospitality, the centenary celebrations will honour the rich heritage of the parish while looking confidently to the future.
This year, St Peter’s is celebrating a huge milestone – 100 years at the heart of the Winchester community. To mark the occasion, the parish has put together a year-long programme of events bringing people together through music, prayer, history and shared celebration.
As parish priest Canon Mark Hogan says:
“This is more than an anniversary – it’s a celebration of light, life and togetherness.”
That sense of light runs throughout the centenary year. We believe that Jesus is the Light of the World – a light for all people – and the events planned invite everyone to pause, reflect and experience that light in different ways.
The celebrations begin in early February with Light of the World – Son et Lumière, transforming St Peter’s with striking light displays inside and outside the church, alongside live music, exhibitions and refreshments in the Pastoral Centre.
Across the year there will be concerts, talks, services and community events, with something for everyone. From moments of quiet reflection to joyful celebration, the centenary is both a chance to look back with gratitude and to come together in the present.
Whether you’re a regular at St Peter’s, a former parishioner or simply curious to step inside, everyone is warmly invited to be part of this special year.
